BOOK LAUNCH | Peter Zusi: The Integrity of the Avant-Garde: Karel Teige and the Biography of an Ambition
On what grounds do we speak of ’the avant-garde’ in interwar European culture? Peter Zusi, the current director of New York University Prague and honorary professor at the University College London will present his book The Integrity of the Avant-Garde: Karel Teige and the Biography of an Ambition (2024) exploring the thinking of the Czech avant-garde art theorist Karel Teige (1900-1951) and the points of contact between his thought and that of figures such as Georg Lukács and Walter Benjamin, Le Corbusier, André Breton, and Hannes Meyer. Discussion will be moderated by philosophers Jana Ndiaye Berankova and Joe Grim Feinberg and chaired by Isabel Jacobs. Book launch organized by the Department for the Study of Modern Czech Philosophy and the Department of Contemporary Continental Philosophy, Institute of Philosophy, CAS, and Suture Press.
